Course Objectives

  • In this course, we will cover the basics of painting within software like Photoshop and Procreate. With an emphasis on light design, texture, and brush work within a composition, this class will be the base steps into creating the awesome imagery we see portrayed throughout the entertainment industry today.

  • Create imagery with emotional appeal

Instructor: Ashton Johnson

Ashton Johnson is a Concept Designer who has been working in the Entertainment Industry for the last 10+ years. He has worked on designing characters, environments, and props for major companies and brands that encompass television, commercials, and video games. Some of his past clients include Activision, 2K Games, Warner Bros. Media, Lionsgate Films, Framestore, Johnson&Johnson, and Nintendo

Teaching Assistant: Kaitlyn Nguyen

Kaitlyn Nguyen is a Visual Development Artist with experience in both games and feature animation. She began her career as an intern on Riot Games’ Worldbuilding Team, where she worked with writers to develop the lore of Runeterra, and later worked on the upcoming Smurfs movie at Paramount. Kaitlyn specializes in color keys, pitch paintings, storyboards, environment/prop design and surfacing/packaging.
