Portfolio Prep for Animation, Games, and Film

This course is designed to help students in the animation, games, and film industries create a professional portfolio of their work. Through a series of lectures, exercises, and critiques, students will learn how to present their skills and experiences in the most effective way possible.

The course will cover a range of topics, including:

  • Identifying the target audience for your portfolio

  • Selecting and organizing your best work

  • Presenting your work in a clear and cohesive manner

  • Creating a strong online presence

  • Marketing your portfolio to potential employers or clients

Students will also have the opportunity to receive feedback on their portfolio from industry professionals, as well as work on a final project to showcase their skills. By the end of the course, students will have a strong portfolio that they can use to pursue opportunities in the animation, games, and film industries.

Class Begins

Class Starts Summer June 2023 (Pacific Time Zone/California), 

Time: Mondays 7-10pm. June 1st - August 19th  (Place holder date)

Cost: $500 TBA (don't how much to charge yet)

15 Students Max. First come first serve basis

Class will be hosted on Zoom. Please download app before 1st day of class. Mic is required for critiques, webcam encourage, not required (nobody want to speak to a blank screen)

Shared Google Drive Folder for Student Feedback

Demos will be in Adobe Photoshop. Students are free to choose their own media such as Procreate or traditional media.

  • This class is for intermediate level art students who want to continue developing their skills. Students are expected the know basics human anatomy 

  • Please note this is class is lecture heavy. You will received a lot of information. 

  • Expect 3-5 hours of homework per week with this class.

    • Setting goals for your portfolio

  • Week 2: Identifying Your Target Audience

    • Who are you trying to reach with your portfolio?

    • What types of jobs or clients are you targeting?

    • What are the expectations and preferences of your target audience?

  • Week 3: Selecting and Organizing Your Work

    • Choosing the best examples of your work

    • Grouping your work into categories or themes

    • Creating a logical flow and structure for your portfolio

  • Week 4: Presenting Your Work

    • Choosing the best format for your portfolio (online, print, etc.)

    • Designing a visually appealing layout

    • Writing clear and concise descriptions of your work

  • Week 5: Creating an Online Presence

    • Setting up a website or online portfolio

    • Promoting your work through social media and networking sites

    • Ensuring that your online presence reflects your personal brand

  • Week 6: Marketing Your Portfolio

    • Identifying potential employers or clients

    • Crafting a strong pitch or proposal

    • Sending your portfolio to potential opportunities

  • Week 7: Receiving Feedback

    • Seeking feedback from industry professionals

    • Receiving critiques and evaluations from classmates

    • Incorporating feedback into your portfolio

  • Week 8: Final Project

    • Working on a final project to showcase your skills

    • Presenting the project to the class

    • Receiving feedback and critiques from classmates and instructor.

Instructor: Kathy Zuniga

Kathy Zuniga is a Talent Acquisition & Management professional with over a decade of experience in the entertainment and gaming industries. She has held various recruitment roles at companies such as Blizzard Entertainment, Riot Games, and Method Studios. In addition to her work in talent acquisition, Kathy has also served as an Adjunct Professor at the Laguna College of Art and Design. Currently, Kathy is working as a Creative Talent Acquisition Specialist at GreenPark Sports, and has recently joined Nexus Studios as a Talent Acquisition & Management professional.
